SUMMER SENSATIONS

As an extension of the primary secondary transition programme Oban high School values its partnerships with the providers of the summer sensation programme. This event is organised by Dale Kupris – Active Schools Co-ordinator and Neil Innes Play Sport Manager. They produced the programmes and managed the two-day event with the brilliant support of the key partners who contributed a great deal of time and resources in-kind.

Summer Sensations 2009 was the fifth two-day transition event held for P6 & P7 pupils from the OLI area. 74 children attended the event from a possible 384 children who were in P6 & P7 at the end of the 2009 academic year.

The programme ran on Thursday August 13th at Atlantis Leisure and Friday August 14th at Oban High School. Key partners in the event included: Active Schools, Atlantis Leisure, Community Learning, Oban Youth Café, Oban High School, Stramash and NHS Highland.

The programme was designed to reflect opportunities the children would be able to take part in future at Oban High, Atlantis, through Community Learning, Stramash and the Oban Youth Café.   Each child that participated was able to take part in 10 separate activities over the two days.

The sixth year of this event will take place on the 12th & 13th August of this year. These events give the P6 & 7 pupils extra opportunities to meet each other, familiarise themselves with the high school building and identify activities that they may which to continue when they go to high school.
