All pupils engage with relevant themes and ideas of importance through reading, discussing and viewing, as well as creating their own texts. Pupils also have opportunities to develop interpersonal skills by working together, creating texts in a variety of media.
The S1-S3 CfE course will cover the Experiences and Outcomes for Gàidhlig and Literacy, continuing to focus on the four modes of Reading, Writing, Talking and Listening. There will be an increased emphasis on active learning and media texts, as well as traditional literary texts. There is an emphasis on the use of ICT to support learning.
Texts covered in S1 and S2 include Pòsadh Màiri, A’ Dol Dhachaigh, A’ Chorrag Chrosta, Saorsa, Mairead, Beatha le Buaidh and Am Partaidh Purpaidh. Pupils will have the opportunity to produce pieces of creative writing, research various cultural topics and and write discursive essays. Extensive use of BBC Alba is made as pupils review TV programmes. In addition, pupils will develop the skills to analyse texts effectively and present a solo talks.
In S2 and S3 pupils will be given the learning opportunities to re-visit these skills and develop them further, using a variety of texts which are lengthier and more demanding. Pupils will further develop their textual analysis skills and look more at writing techniques and how they are affected by the texts they have read. Texts covered in S3 include Na Bleideagan, An Turas, and Ann Am Bosnia.
To summarise the general aims of our S1-S3 Course are:
To enable pupils to engage with a wide range of texts to develop an appreciation of the richness and breadth of Scotland’s literary and linguistic heritage.
To understand what is special, vibrant and valuable about theirown language and culture and those of others.

To develop pupils' communication and literacy skills
To develop pupils' critical skills of analysis and evaluation
To encourage pupils' intellectual, social and personal growth
To give pupils appropriate levels of challenge and support
To encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning
To develop each individual pupil's potential
Homework in Gàidhlig
Pupils will be asked to do homework for Gàidhlig on a regular basis.
The length of time required to complete homework assignments may naturally vary from week to week and pupil to pupil, depending upon the amount of work done in class.
In addition to reading widely and practising their reading skills, pupils may often be expected to go over their class work to revise and consolidate, to correct errors and to complete written assignments when required.
They may be asked to prepare a talk or interview someone to find out a piece of information.
A purposeful interest in radio and television programmes and films is also encouraged, which will help critical listening skills.

Gàihdlig is available at every level in S4 to S6, up to Advanced Higher.
