22nd June in School
Tuesday 22nd June 2021
Dear Parent/Carer (please share with your child)
I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones all safe and well.
As noted in yesterday’s letter, another one of the children in our community has been tested
positive for Covid-19. Along with my Deputes and office staff, we supported Public Health
Scotland with their track and trace procedures last night, part of which looks at whom the
young person came into contact with whilst in school. Everyone who needs to be contacted
has been reached.
I’m again pleased to report that the youngster is doing well and we wish them the speediest
of recoveries, and once again I would praise the parents of the young person as they
followed exactly the correct measures to keep us all safe and well.
We are all aware that there is a rise in Covid cases and the large numbers of both young and
old alike having to self-isolate as result. This is quite naturally causing a degree of anxiety in
the area; and now that school aged pupils are being affected across the town, our anxieties
around Covid are naturally increasing.
I would like to reiterate that the school procedures of sanitising pupils constantly, wearing
face coverings, keeping pupils in bubbles, modifying break and lunch routines, having
staggered departures, ensuring pupils sit in the same seats in each class, moving the teacher
rather than the class wherever possible, having window vents and doors open to ensure
airflow and having a fantastic cleaning team cleaning touch points every hour and promoting
the twice weekly use of Lateral Flow Testing all contribute to reducing the chances of a virus
(any virus) spreading and consequently keeping the numbers requiring to self-isolate
markedly small in Oban High School.
As much as this is true, the risk and consequent concerns of us all at this time are very clear.
I would encourage our families to make use of the services of our Clan Pastoral Teams: our
Deputes, Guidance Teachers, Family Liaison Officers, Youth Worker (and if linked to blended
learning) our IT support staff, are all there to support any difficulty or concern pupils or
parents may have at this time. We are here to help you, just ask.
You can contact us by using the Contact Us page on the website or contacting the Guidance
Teacher directly by email. If it’s an emergency, please use the phone.
I hope the remainder of the week, indeed the remainder of the term, is a safe and pleasant
period for all.
