Glencruitten Hostel

The Glencruitten Hostel provides a supportive and welcoming environment for young people attending Oban High School who live too far away to travel daily. It accommodates pupils from island communities such as Colonsay, Coll, Mull, Lismore, Iona, Kerrera, Gometra, Tiree, Shuna, and Easdale, as well as those from Bridge of Orchy.

Most pupils, including those from Mull, Lismore, Iona, Kerrera, Shuna, Easdale, and Bridge of Orchy, stay at the hostel from Monday to Friday and return home for the weekend. However, for pupils from Coll, Gometra, Tiree, and Colonsay, staying at the hostel over the weekend is often necessary due to the challenges of travel.

The hostel is fully staffed during the school week to provide comprehensive care and support. A smaller team remains on duty over the weekend to support full-week residents. Glencruitten Hostel is closed during school holidays.

By offering a safe and inclusive space, the hostel ensures that all young people, regardless of distance, can access their education at Oban High School while building friendships and a sense of community.

Glencruitten Hostel’s goal is to provide a welcoming, caring, and supportive environment where young people can feel at home. They are dedicated to offering the help and guidance needed to thrive during their time at Oban High School.

The hostel operates an Open Door Policy, meaning young people, parents, and families are always welcome to contact or visit at any time.

For more detailed information about services and policies, please refer to the Hostel Handbook, which can be downloaded from the Policies section of our website.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Hostel by phone or visit in person.
