We spoke with a number of teachers about what they value most about working at Oban High School — and about living in Oban and the surrounding communities.
Staff consistently described Oban High School as a welcoming, collaborative and community-led school, where colleagues support one another and work together with a shared commitment to young people. Many highlighted the positive relationships across departments, strong links with partner schools, and the sense of being part of something bigger than just one classroom.
Teachers also spoke warmly about our young people, describing them as enthusiastic, respectful and kind, and said it is a genuine privilege to work with pupils who are proud of their school and community.
Beyond the school gates, staff highlighted the quality of life that comes with living and working in Oban and the wider Argyll area. From coastal walks, sea swimming and outdoor sports, to island hopping, local cafés, music, arts and community events, Oban offers a unique balance of professional fulfilment and personal wellbeing.
Several teachers told us that working at Oban High School allows them to teach in the best way possible — taking time to know learners well, building strong relationships, and supporting every young person to achieve their full potential — while enjoying a lifestyle that values space, nature and community.
For many, Oban is more than just a place to work — it is a place to belong, grow and build a life.
